Our Honeymoon Registry: Amanda & Alex

About Our Honeymoon

We will be embarking on the trip of a lifetime! Chile and Argentina are on our itinerary, there will be plenty of relaxing, sightseeing, hiking and wine tasting to be had. Imagine the old Indiana Jones movies, where the creative director cleverly depicts Indy’s travels via a world map. Picture if you will an airplane followed by a dotted red line making its way from Los Angeles, California to Houston, Texas and then on to Santiago, Chile. From there we will rent a car and drive to the coast of Chile to a little town called Valapraiso, the home of famed poet Pablo Neruda. There we will explore the local markets, museums and beaches. Next stop, San Alfonso a small town just south of Santiago in the Maipo Valley, there we will make our way through wine country (we are pros now living in California ;-) having visited many many wineries). We will also trek through the Cajon del Maipo a protected wonderland, nestled at the base of the Andes. There we will find the famed mineral pools and hot springs that claim ancient restorative powers. Now imagine the red dotted line making its way to Buenos Aries. There we will spend a few days discovering all the city has to offer, nights out on the town, tango shows and more. This will be a fun stopping point on our way to our next destination. San Carlo Bariloche, Argentina is our next stop. There we will spend some quality relaxation time. Spa days mixed with nature hikes. This lakeside town will be a quiet and welcome respite to our world travels. Our last stop is Patagonia, the ends of the EARTH! There we will see penguins, and glaciers and wonders our eyes have only dreamed of seeing. We will be spending time in the Torres Del Paine National Park, snapping many many photographs. This has been a lifelong dream of Amanda’s and we can’t wait to make it come true.

A & A

About Us

Amanda & Alex met while attending Cal Poly Pomona. They became instant friends and partners in crime, i.e. accounting class. Teamwork, yeah they are better people for it. So as Amanda tells the story she caught Alex trying to copy off her accounting test, she offered to help him study and they worked trading knowledge and got each other through. As Alex tells the story...Amanda copied his homework half the time, but he still wonders how she got an A and he came home with a C :-) Needless to say they remained friends anyway. Years later after graduation they reconnected when Amanda moved up to Alex's neck of the woods. Amanda asked Alex if he could show her around town, and Alex took the opportunity to woo her! The rest my friends is history.

The Steps and Hills

Valparaiso is surrounded by 45 hills (cerros) with ravines that fall close to the Pacific Ocean. There are thousands upon thousands of stairways with innumerable steps on the cerros, so much that the city’s beloved citizen Pablo Neruda had declared that if we walked through all the stairways of this "absurd" city, we would have travelled around the world. It is an exaggeration of course, but the truth perhaps is not that far removed from the imagination if the cry from our leg and back muscles

Tour Isla Negra House

Due to the evoking power of its objects and the prevalence of the sea over its surroundings, the Isla Negra house is a kind of visual and material synthesis of Neruda’s lyrical world of images.

Tour La Sebastiana

La Sebastiana was a colorful, artsy, hillside house which was once the residence of Chilean poet, Pablo Neruda. The gardens were pretty, although small and provided a birdseye view of the neighborhood and the bay of Valparaiso below.
