Our Honeymoon Registry: Kylie & Dave

Kylie and Dave in Downtown Springfield

About Us

Kylie and Dave met in Dave's hometown of Springfield, MO while she was in town attending MRI school. Their connection was immediate and, within four months of their first date, Dave proposed to Kylie at his home in front of their friends and family while hosting her surprise "25th Birthday Party."

We are planning our wedding to be an eclectic blend of people, emotions, colors, sights, sounds, and excitement that will symbolize our love and devotion to one another and will reflect our tastes, values, and personalities in every way imaginable. We are thrilled to have the chance to share our special day with so many people who have been a part of our individual lives and we hope that those relationships will continue to grow now that our two lives are becoming one.

About Our Honeymoon

As if having our dream wedding wasn't enough, we are thrilled to have the chance to go on our dream honeymoon! A week after our wedding we will leave Springfield to spend 11 days in Italy.

Our trip will start in Rome where we will take in as much of the Eternal City as possible. We are renting an apartment that is just a short walk away from the Tiber River, Piazza Navona, and the Pantheon. The apartment has much more space than a traditional European hotel including a living room, bedroom, full private bathroom (which is more rare than you'd think), and a full kitchen so that we can cook a dinner together. Our plans include an audience with Pope Benedict XVI and a tour of the Vatican and St. Peters Basilica in Vatican City. Visiting amazing architectural structures like the Forum, Pantheon, and Colosseum. Viewing artistic masterpieces like the Sistine Chapel along with countless works of art at the Vatican Museum and Borghese Gallery. Seeing famous sites like the Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps. Enjoying the Roman nightlife in Camp Dei Fiori. And eating as much Italian cuisine as our stomachs can handle!

From Rome we will travel to Florence, the birthplace of the Renaissance, where we will be staying in a quaint, family-owned, hotel in the city center. We hope to visit famous museums like the Uffizi and the Academia (home of Michelangelo's David), the 13th century Gothic Cathedral - Cattedrale de Santa Maria del Fiore, and the Ponte Vecchio Bridge. We will shop in the open air market at Piazza San Lorenzo and eat even more Italian food at several of the Italian cafes and restaurants that line the streets of Florence. We plan to spend an evening having a formal dinner and then attend a classical Italian opera. We also get to spend a full day touring wineries, vineyards (and of course sampling the wine), seeing how olive oil and balsamic vinegar are made, sampling salami and cheese in a small village, and even get to visit some castles throughout the Tuscan countryside. We expect this to be the highlight of our trip!

Our final stop on our trip will be to Venice, the City of Water. This will be the true "honeymoon" part of our trip. We are staying at the Molino Stucky Hilton, a new luxurious hotel on the island of Giudecca. We intend to relax and soak in the atmosphere of one of the most romantic cities in the world. But we will also get to see Murano glass being made, visit St. Mark's Square (and hope the pigeons don't attack). We will see the Bridge of Sighs and the Grand Canal. Of course no trip to Venice would be complete without a romantic dinner and a moonlit ride throughout the canals on a gondola. I'm sure we will find the time to have that experience.

We will then reluctantly pack our bags and head home. Let's just hope the legend of throwing a coin into the Trevi Fountain is true and that we can someday return again!

Lunch in Greve

During their day touring Tuscany with a private guide, Kylie and Dave have planed to take a break from the wineries, vineyards, olive oil presses, and castles for lunch in the city of Greve. Located in the Chianti area, Greve is exactly what you'd picture a true Italian village to be. Greve in Chianti is the chief producing town of the world-famous Chianti red wine, characterized by vineyards, olive trees, Roman castles and medieval hilltop villages. Greve is famous for being the leader of the "Slow Food" philosophy. Slow Food was created to counteract fast food and fast life, the disappearance of local food traditions and people’s dwindling interest in the food they eat, where it comes from, how it tastes, and how their food choices affect the rest of the world. Chefs that adhere to the Slow Food practices and beliefs depend upon local organic farmers for their produce, pay special attention to how food is prepared, and savor the idea that, when it comes to food, faster is rarely better. Treat the newlyweds to what is sure to be the most authentically-Italian meal they could ever have!

Grocery Shopping Italiano

Sometimes the best part of traveling abroad is experiencing the differences in everyday aspects of life. In America, you go to a supermarket and buy all of your groceries in one stop. In Italy they go to the market for their produce, to the bakery for bread, and to a butcher for meat. One of the reasons Kylie and Dave booked an apartment in Rome was so they could us the kitchen to cook a meal together with fresh ingredients bought from the local markets and stores. Send the couple on an adventure through the open-air market in Campo De' Fiori area (which is within walking distance of their apartment) where they can pick through carts of fresh fruits and vegetables, then they will head to a bakery for Italian bread fresh out of the oven, next they will stop at a butcher shop for some choice cuts of meat, and they will end their trip with a quick visit to an enoteca for a bottle or two of Italian wine. This is sure to culinary bliss for the newlyweds!

Renting scooters is an excellent way to see as much of Rome as possible in a short amount of time. However, the Roman streets are chaotic to say the least. First Class Upgrade

Big leather seats that recline all the way back, tasty food served on real china, movies on demand, enough champagne to put anyone to sleep for most of a transatlantic flight... First Class! Help Kylie and Dave upgrade their flights to the front of the plane. Luckily, Kylie has graciously suggested that, if they're only able to upgrade one ticket, she'll take one for the team and suffer through a flight surrounded by a bunch of rich snobs in first class. What a sweetheart!
