Beach Rental!

After unwinding at the hotels, we hit the road for the Nicoya Peninsula. We're renting a little house by the beach in the little town of Nosara for some low-key beach living. Watching the rain, hunting frogs, barbecuing fish with the monkeys...

Happy Hour at La Luna Bar

According to reviews this Nosara bar has an "enviable location and overlooking the water at Playa Pelada". Sounds perfect for our nightly cocktail hour at sunset.

Night at a Boutique Hotel

After our beach rental, we're going to continue the trip a trip further down the Nicoya Peninsula. This gift is for a night at a small hotel that our exploration leads us to.

TangoMar Resort

This gift is for the grand finale of our trip - a stay in the beachfront Tiki Suites at Tangomar resort. What could be a better way to say goodbye to the tropics than staying a few feet from the beach in a hotel room built on wooden stilts? We would like to stay for three nights - each gift pays for part of the stay.

One Day of RAV4 Rental

This is the lifeblood of the trip. The RAV4 is the little cousin of the venerable Forerunner. We will need 4x4 power to navigate the muddy roads and washed out rivers of Costa Rica's rainy season. And something to blast Skynyrd really loud in.

Dinner: The Gilded Iguana

Another Nosara spot for dinner - where they "serve fish so fresh that it's still wiggling." Nothing like like eating seafood by the sea. The gift is for a dinner for the couple on the town here one night.

Deep Sea Fishing

Years ago, Joe lost a marlin off the coast of Honduras in a driving storm. He has chased it for years, while it ceaselessly mocked him, always a step ahead of his dogged pursuit . On this trip he brings it home. This gift is for a full day of deep sea fishing for the couple - gift also includes Dramamine and 85 SPF sunblock for Joe.

Day Two of Surfing

After our initial lessons - we are vowing to go back for more. After all, we are staying by a great surf beach. This gift is for day two of surf board and wetsuit rentals for a day of surfing (or boogie boards if we bail after day one).

Steak Dinner on the Grill

Two filet mignons to throw on the grill at the beach rental (We know they will be hard to find in Costa Rica - but rest assured Joe can smell out a tender filet from three towns away).

Beach Toys

This gift is for some beach toys - maybe some european beach paddles, maybe some boogie boards for when the surfing lessons go south, something fun no matter what.

Cocktail Hour!

A nice, looong one. Preferably in the pool bar at the Tabacon Hot Springs.

Breakfast in Bed for Two

At least twice, we would love to sleep in late and then order breakfast at the last possible minute. Fresh fruit is mandatory.

Beachside Romantic Dinner

From "our house" in Nosara you can walk down the beach to La Luna restaurant. These gifts are each for a dinner out by the beach, under la luna of course.

Beach Picnic for Lunch

Probably the day after watching the Packers game, Monique will start to have her doubts, and Joe will kick the romance back into high gear. Time for a picnic lunch on the beach! Sauve.

Golf for Two

Golf in the tropics - this is my idea of heaven. This gift is for a game of golf for Monique and Joe on one day of the trip. Probably on the Tango Mar Resort's golf course.

Flight Leg One

Oakland to Houston. This is the red-eye - leaving midnight the day after our wedding. Help us get on our way! Your gift buys 1000 miles of the flight! Sleeping pills for Joe included.

Flight Leg Two

Houston to San Jose, Costa Rica. After a lovely layover in Houston's airport, this flight takes off sometime around dawn. Your gift is for 750 miles and includes a Jack and Coke for Monique and Joe to help them hide from the sun.

Flight Leg Three

San Jose, Costa Rica to Houston. 750 miles of the return trip. This might be a good gift for those of you who actually want us to return home. If no one gets this gift, we might just have to stay in paradise.

White Water Rafting

A rafting trip on one of Costa Rica's amazing rivers. Destined to be like Deliverance, but with poisonous blowdarts instead of shotguns.

Surf Lessons

Tasty waves! Two surf lessons on the waves off the coast of Nosara. First time for both of us, so this should be quite a scene.

Arenal Volcano

A tour up the active and angry Arenal volcano. Optional human sacrifice of Monique to the Volcano God - depending on the will of the Volcano God.

Swedish Massage for Two

Two Swedish-style massages to help us relax from all the months of wedding planning stress. From some huge guy named Lars.

Rum and Coconuts

A bottle of Costa Rican rum and some fresh coconuts. Apparently the combination of fresh coconut milk and rum is called Coco Loco in Costa Rica. Joe calls it heaven.

Zip Lines In Rainforest

A day of crazy zip-lining through the canopy of a Costa Rican rainforest. Monique's screams will be heard from miles around and cause fear in the indigenous people.

Burgers and Beer

This gift is for two hamburgers and six Imperials (Costa Rican beer) to be enjoyed at some divey ex-pat bar while watching the first Packers game of 2008 on satelite tv! (Note: If Monique elects to skip this event, Joe will eat both hamburgers and drink all six beers).

Bike Rental

This gift is for bike rental for the day around Nosara. Ok, maybe not a tandem bike. But the area around our beach house is supposedly great to bike around and explore, maybe get off the beaten path. And, maybe, it will be a tandem bike and we will take pictures like this.

Bottle of Champagne

A couple bottles of bubbly to enjoy in the hot tub. It would be against the law to not drink champagne on our honeymoon.

Tabacon Spa

Our next stop is two nights at this beautiful hotel at the foot of the Arenal Volcano. The hotel features access to hot springs, heated by the volcano. If you are lucky, you can see the lava flows at night! www.tabacon.com

Basket of Tropical Fruit

An overflowing basket of fresh, juicy, tropical fruit. This is is sure to occupy Monique for hours.

Romantic Dinner

This gift is for a romantic dinner at a fancy restaurant for the FIRST NIGHT of the honeymoon. If someone gets this, Joe also promises that they will order two desserts so Monique doesn't have to decide.
